Down to the wire for Day 25 because it’s day 1 at Apollycon and I’ve spent the day immersed in all things bookish. Fitting then that today’s poem is a ‘still life’ of my bookshelf, with some pics for reference!
xo, adrienne
still life
painted spines full of painted lies on paper
lives that never lived but do live in you
in your mind, these dearest friends
and enemies
teaching you, reaching you and
taking you away
bright bold headlines inviting you
into the darkest of wishes
swimming like fishes between
each of the pages, longing
to belong to one of them
a treasure trove of trophies
an ode to every minute spent
devouring word after word
ignoring all else in favor of the dream
in neat little rows all lined up with care
and attention to detail and color and theme
with art tucked around and nicknacks galore
but together, it’s a masterpiece
still life of my bookshelf
